OK, *now* I'm angry

This is not a good way to start the week. I just got e-mail to say that we won't be getting the extra day's bank holiday next year for the Queen's Jubilee. So, everyone else will be off work on 3rd and 4th June, and we will be expected to be here, even though we won't be able to phone other people because they won't be at work. I just investigated my contract to see if they can really get away with this, but since it just says "there are 9 public holidays in the year", I am no wiser. What of when there are more than 9? I wasn't here for the Millennium holiday, but I'll try and find out if they got that one...

Oh, and people telling me that I am not a Royalist and so shouldn't care *really* don't get it. I'm not a Christian, but I don't turn down Xmas and Easter holidays...

For the Christmas thing...
I say I believe in the Christmas spirit and "good will to all (people)" - And family and friends - That was Christmas is for me - General good cheer in an otherwise reasonably miserable season.

I don't even know what the Christian spin on Christmas is personally ...

But hey - I am no royalist either - But I want my days off :-)

Although - Is it cos the Scottish have devolved?? (country wise, rather than any sort of genetic backward step, in case my spellings are amiss!)

Devolution
Nope, the rest of Scotland is getting it, just not us.

Personally I intend to be painting the hall during the Xmas holiday, and having my big meal on Solstice on the 21st...

What does your contract say about extra payments for working on weekends/holidays?

"Of course, I'd be delighted to work on a bank holiday - even if no one outside this organisation will be doing so - especially as you'll be paying double time..."

The royal holiday I remember most was the Charles and Diana one - a group of us got in a full game of Conquistador... Apparently, there was some wedding or some such happening at the same time.

Bah! They'll be telling you you can't have National Phone In Sick Day off next.
Is it worth keeping the church and monarchy just the sake of public holidays? It had never occurred to me before, but I suppose they serve the occasional purpose.
